Could locavores become ‘locavestors’?

There’s a growing infrastructure for businesses that sell local foods, and the nation’s locavores could become “locavestors,” a recognized author and economist told farmers at the 2012 Virginia Farm to Table Conference.



Property rights amendment to take effect Jan. 1, 2013

For private property rights advocates in Virginia, the wait is almost over. An amendment to the state constitution approved by voters on Nov. 6 will take effect Jan. 1, 2013.

Todd Haymore, the state’s secretary of agriculture and forestry, led his sixth annual trade mission to Havana in November, and as a result Virginia has beefed up its apple and soybean exports to the country that for years banned trade with the United States.
