Farm transition and estate planning workshops will be held Nov. 14 at the Bedford Campus of Central Virginia Community College and Nov. 15 at the Rustburg office of Virginia Cooperative Extension in Campbell County.

Since the Virginia agriculture license plate initiative started in 2004, Virginians who display the specialty plate have been driving home their support for the state’s farmers.

Six Virginia localities are receiving fiscal 2016 grants to place working farmland under permanent conservation easements.

The number of farms in Virginia in 2014 is estimated at 45,900, down 100 from 2013, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

A website that celebrates U.S. farms operated by the same families for 100 years or more has launched at agricultureslastingheritage.org.
