Your lipstick may be OK for you—but not for your kids. At least that’s what a new report is telling us.
What gives? Researchers have determined lipsticks and lip glosses contain lead, cadmium, chromium, aluminum, and other toxic metals that can be harmful to your health—many at levels that approach or exceed public health guidelines for exposure.
Researchers claimed the levels of toxicity were unlikely to be an issue based on average levels of use, but advised children should avoid playing with makeup—because no level of lead exposure is considered safe for kids.
According to researchers, because lipstick and lip gloss are absorbed and consumed over time as they’re used and worn, wearers can be exposed to toxic metal ingredients like chromium and manganese, which have been linked to stomach tumors and nervous system problems, respectively.
As always, if you have a health concerns, consult your doctor for additional guidance.
