Beef cattle and hay producer Gordon R. Metz of Martinsville was elected Nov. 30 to an 11th three-year term on the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation board of directors.

Elections of directors were held at the VFBF 2017 Annual Convention in Williamsburg.

As a board member, Metz will represent Farm Bureau producer members in Alleghany, Bedford, Botetourt, Craig, Franklin, Henry, Patrick and Roanoke counties.

Metz is chairman of the VFBF Equine Advisory Committee and a member of the Membership Services Advisory Committee. He also serves on the boards of Mississippi-based Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Co. and New York-based Countryway Insurance Co.

He is a past president of Henry County Farm Bureau and has served for more than 20 years on that organization’s board. He also is a past member of the VFBF Young Farmers Committee and a past chairman of the American Farm Bureau Federation Equine Committee. He previously served on the board of Smyth County Mutual Insurance Co.

The Henry County native is on the advisory board for Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation and is an active member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He is a former president of the Figsboro Ruritan Club, the Augusta Military Academy Alumni Association and the Augusta Military Academy board of trustees.
