USDA launches online rural tax resource

WASHINGTON—The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency has announced the availability of a new website called Rural Tax Education at ruraltax.org. The site was created to provide farmers and ranchers with information on agriculture-related income and self-employment tax issues.

The project is a collaborative effort of 15 U.S. land grant universities and features free webinars and sample tax returns. Among its downloadable publications is its Tax Guide for Owners and Operators of Small and Medium Size Farms and fact sheets on topics such as “Depreciation and Expensing” and “Farm, Farming and Who’s a Farmer for Tax Purposes.”
