Pulaski couple named runners-up for national Farm Bureau award

HONOLULU—Jason and Paige Pratt of Pulaski County were named runners-up for the 2012 American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Award Jan. 9 at the AFBF annual convention.

The award recognizes young farmers and ranchers who do not derive the majority of their income from an agricultural operation but actively contribute and grow through their involvement in agriculture and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations.

The Pratts received a Case IH Farmall 45A tractor, courtesy of Case IH, and a $5,000 savings bond and a Stihl Farm Boss chain saw, courtesy of Stihl.

They previously won the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation 2011 Young Farmers Excellence in Agriculture Award late last year.

Jason Pratt is an agriculture agent for Virginia Cooperative Extension and works on his family’s farm with his father. Paige Pratt is an Extension specialist at Virginia Tech and oversees youth livestock programs across the state.
