NPC Promotes Wellness

The National Prevention Council released an action plan that aims to improve American's health.

The Action Plan comes in addition to the federal implementation of the National Prevention Strategy, which works to fight medical issues brought on by obesity, smoking tobacco, health disparities and chronic disease. The Plan parallels prevention and wellness efforts already in effect by the federal government, states, health care systems, businesses and communities.

"Currently, chronic diseases and conditions account for at least 7 of every 10 deaths in our country, and many of these conditions are preventable," said Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services, a member of the National Prevention Council.

The council is committed to promoting health and prevention to help Americans lived productive and healthy lives.

While government efforts work to provide more tobacco free environments, affordable and healthy food and opportunities to consider prevention and health, having adequate health insurance makes maintaining health easier.
