WARRENTON—Women who own or manage farm and forest land in Fauquier and Loudoun counties can participate in workshops focused on women in agriculture and natural resources in the region.

The Warrenton Women and Land Conservation Learning Circle is part of the American Farmland Trust’s Women and Land conservation program, designed for female landowners who make management decisions on Virginia farm and forest land.

 A session on Sept. 28 will address conservation programs and practices and will be held at the Fauquier Education Farm in Warrenton. Another session, scheduled for Oct. 19, will focus on succession planning and leasing; a location has not yet been determined. The workshops will run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will include dinner.

With more than 1 million women operating American farms, and a growing number of women inheriting, starting or taking charge of farms, the American Farmland Trust has been part of an initiative to address the need for policies and programs specifically targeted to female landowners.

 The organization is collaborating with conservation partners such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resource Conservation Service, the John Marshall Soil and Water Conservation District and Virginia Cooperative Extension.
