Jack Kerr of Augusta County has been named the winner of the inaugural Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers Outstanding Young Farm Employee Award.

He was honored at the VFBF Young Farmers Summer Expo in Franklin. The award recognizes successful young agriculturalists with outstanding leadership in farming and throughout the agricultural community. The ideal candidate is an individual who works full time or part time on a farm, is not a majority owner in the operation, and has an impact on the overall farm success and owner profits on a daily basis.

Kerr works on a large purebred Angus cow-calf operation in Augusta, where he is responsible for monitoring calving, feeding and vaccinations. He also makes hay, maintains equipment and keeps records, among other duties.

He holds an associate’s degree in applied agricultural management from Virginia Tech.

Kerr will receive $500 and a commemorative plaque from First Bank AgCredit. 

With nearly 150,000 members in 88 county Farm Bureaus, VFBF is Virginia’s largest farmers’ advocacy group. Farm Bureau is a non-governmental, nonpartisan, voluntary organization committed to protecting Virginia’s farms and ensuring a safe, fresh and locally grown food supply.
