Tornadoes wreak havoc on some of state’s farms

One week after eight confirmed tornadoes touched down in Southwest, Central and eastern Virginia, more than 126 farmowner storm claims had been received by the Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co. To date they total $1.6 million in damages, according to Rick Mattox, VFBMIC vice president of claims.

Sam and Ashley Gardner of Bedford County recently were named runners-up for the American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers Achievement Award. The competition took place at the 2016 AFBF Annual Convention, held Jan. 10-13 in Orlando, Fla.





Loudoun County farmer wins national Farm Bureau Discussion Meet

Chris Van Vlack of Loudoun County recently took top honors in the American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers Discussion Meet competition. The competition took place at the 2016 AFBF Annual Convention, held Jan. 10-13 in Orlando, Fla.



Three Virginia young farmers receive national honors

For the first time ever, Virginia Farm Bureau Federation had finalists in all three Young Farmers & Ranchers competitions at the annual American Farm Bureau Federation convention.



County ag development boards can address local issues
