DOSWELL—Visitors to the 2010 State Fair of Virginia can stop by the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation booth in the Farm Bureau Center to learn more about where their food comes from and what’s being done to protect their food supply.

"The Virginia Farm Bureau has been working to help farmers since 1926, and everyone, we hope, has a common interest in that," said Wayne F. Pryor, VFBF president. "Our legislative efforts, our programs to recruit and assist the next generation of farmers, and our educational programs are all focused on helping our farmers thrive. We want to keep agriculture growing."

Visitors to the booth can spin the information wheel to test their knowledge of Virginia agriculture and to win prizes. Information will be available about various Farm Bureau programs, as well as membership applications.

In addition to supporting Virginia farmers, Farm Bureau offers a number of valuable economic services. These include auto, life, health and property insurance; and a wide variety of discounts on Virginia foods, hotels and safety products. Farm Bureau also helps sponsor the Young McDonald Farm exhibit at the fair.

"We recognize that many, many children no longer have an opportunity to see and touch farm animals or visit a working farm," said Keith Langley, VFBF advertising and marketing supervisor. "This is our way of sharing the joy of farming with the next generation of Virginians, no matter where they live."

The state fair runs from Sept. 23 through Oct. 3 and the Farm Bureau Center is open Sunday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to midnight. To learn more about how Farm Bureau is helping farmers, visit SaveOurFood.org.
