Virginia Farm Bureau is a statewide membership organization made up of 88 individual county Farm Bureaus that are involved in their respective communities. 

“County Farm Bureaus are our lifeline into communities,” said Clay Francis, Virginia Farm Bureau’s vice president of membership and field services. Francis’ department serves as a liaison between county Farm Bureaus and Virginia Farm Bureau. 

“They host agricultural educational events at their county fairs, participate in food drives, volunteer with other nonprofit organizations and much more. They truly are the face of the organization and show how Farm Bureau is truly not just a Friend of the Farm—but a friend of the local community.”

• Campbell County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee presented the Bluegrass, Crops and Critters Festival in April. Proceeds from the ticket sales benefitted the Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom program, which connects more than 200,000 children to agriculture each year.
• Carroll County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee supports the county fair by working each day at the event.
• Chesterfield County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee supports school visits by a local farmer who teaches about chickens and how to hatch eggs during classroom embryology projects.
• Clarke, Frederick, Shenandoah and Warren county Farm Bureaus have helped seventh graders learn more about agriculture career options through the Worlds of Work Career Expo in Winchester for several years. Students attending the event learn about a variety of agriculture and agribusiness job opportunities.
• For more than 15 years Grayson County Farm Bureau has sponsored and provided volunteers for the Grayson County Fishing Olympics. The event provides a fishing opportunity for Carroll and Grayson county residents with special needs. 
• Fluvanna County Farm Bureau revived its county fair in 2014 after an absence of more than 34 years. The fair serves as a celebration and showcase for agriculture and provides an opportunity for youth to competitively show animals they have raised. 
• Louisa County Farm Bureau organized a bus trip for members to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky.
• Powhatan County Farm Bureau organizes an annual Celebration of the Horse , which showcases the county’s equine industry and raises money for local 4-H and FFA groups. 
• Prince George County Farm Bureau sponsors a Farm Day every year, sponsors an egg- hatching program in the county school system and provides $25 vouchers for local youth attending 4-H Camp.
• Sussex County Farm Bureau sponsored field trips for local schoolchildren to the State Fair of Virginia to allow them to participate in the fair’s annual Educational Exposition. Without their support, many of the children would not have been able to experience the hands-on learning opportunity that ties into Virginia’s Standards of Learning.
• Tazewell County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee works with their local soil and water conservation district and Virginia Cooperative Extension to offer programs on Living Soils Week for elementary school students. They also hold a “Down on the Farm” event at the Tazewell County Library to which local farmers bring animals from their farms.
