Your Skin’s Itching for Spring

Dry skin can be a real pain—and itch. Dry winter weather can make skin conditions worse. While spring is just around the corner and may provide some relief, you can take matters into your own hands.

To help prevent and manage your itchy skin, keep these tips in mind:

1.      Long, hot showers and baths can dry your skin. Stick to short showers in warm water.

2.      Use a rich moisturizing cream several times a day. Avoid creams that contain alcohol, which can irritate your skin.

3.      Avoid harsh soaps, including antibacterial soaps. Gentle cleansers are best.

4.      Run your humidifier. Moisture in the air in your home or office will help your skin, as well as things like coughs and colds.

5.      Don’t scratch. It’s hard, but important.

6.      Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids—but not alcohol or caffeinated beverages, which can make your body dehydrated.

Chances are your skin will be happier once spring arrives and chases harsh winter weather away. But then there’s always summer’s heat and the challenges of chlorine and salt water to worry about!
