Young Farmers to compete for national honors, prizes in January

Winners of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers Achievement Award, Discussion Meet and Excellence in Agriculture Award will compete on the national level at the 2018 American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Convention.

The Virginia competitors are:

  • Justin and Lori McClellan of Smyth County, who won the Achievement Award;
  • Amy Fannon of Lee County, who won the Discussion Meet; and
  • Casey and Stacey Phillips of Montgomery County, who won the Excellence in Agriculture Award.

The AFBF convention will be held Jan. 5-10 in Nashville, Tenn.

Winners of the AFBF Young Farmers & Ranchers Achievement Award, Discussion Meet and Excellence in Agriculture Award competitions will receive their choice of a 2018 Ford truck and paid registration to the AFBF YF&R Leadership Conference in Reno, Nev., in February. The Achievement Award truck is provided courtesy of Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Co, the Discussion Meet truck courtesy of Farm Bureau Financial Services, and the Excellence in Agriculture truck courtesy of Country Financial.

A second-place runner-up in each competition will receive a Case IH Farmall 50A tractor, courtesy of Case IH.

Third-place finalists in each competition will receive a Case IH 40" combination roll cabinet and top chest and a $500 Case IH parts card, courtesy of Case IH, and $2,000 of Stanley Black & Decker merchandise (PROTO, Dewalt, Stanley, Lenox & Irwin), courtesy of Stanley Black & Decker.

Fourth-place finalists in each competition will receive a Case IH 40” combination roll cabinet and top chest and a $500 Case IH parts card, courtesy of Case IH.
