Two Virginia Hot Spots High on Crash List

For vacationing Virginians, road trips may be particularly hazardous. Virginia landed in the top two spots in a recent study ranking 10 popular U.S. vacation destinations by crash risk.

To determine the rankings, researchers analyzed five years of crash data and calculated an average daily collision claim rate per 100,000 vehicles.

Washington, D.C., topped the list at 7.77 collision claims per day—a whopping 46 percent higher than the average of the 10 U.S. cities in the study.

In the #2 spot, Virginia Beach’s average is 6.76 collision claims per day, which is 27 percent higher than the average.

The only other East Coast cities on the list included Philadelphia, ranked third at 6.17 collision claims per day, and Orlando, ranked sixth at 4.62. Las Vegas was the lowest-ranked in the #10 spot with 4.05 collision claims per day, 24 percent lower than the list’s average.
