Did you know U.S. teen drivers ages 16 to 19 are nearly three times more likely to die in a car accident than adults? That’s a staggering statistic.
A new report ranks each of the states according to fatal teen crash statistics. Virginia ended up in the bottom half, with a teen crash death rate of 15.7—putting it 30th in the country. Here in the commonwealth, the teen crash death rate is 39 percent higher than the adult crash death rate.
Virginia’s deadliest month for teen drivers is October, and its deadliest day is Saturday—most of the country also lists Saturday as a state’s deadliest day.
States with the highest death rates included Wyoming, Montana, Mississippi, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Alabama. States with the lowest death rates included the District of Columbia, New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Jersey.
Talk to your teen driver about driving risks and driving safety—it just might save his life.
