Stay Safe at the State Fair

This year’s State Fair of Virginia gets underway this week, and while it's a brand new year with brand new attractions one thing hasn’t changed: the focus on providing a safe, fun-filled experience for all.

Here’s a list of the top 10 ways you can do your part to be safe and stay safe at the Fair:

  1. Pay attention to weather forecasts, and prepare appropriately.
  2. Be aware of your surroundings, and seek shelter in a thunderstorm.
  3. Use sunscreen to protect against the sun’s harmful rays—even on overcast days.
  4. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated on hot days.
  5. Protect your feet from blisters and accidental injury by wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes.
  6. Teach your children what to do if they get separated from you. If your child does get separated from you, notify police and Fair security immediately.
  7. Don’t throw lit cigarettes on the ground, and never leave a burning cigarette unattended.
  8. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer after touching animals.
  9. Follow all posted rules on rides, and pay attention to instructions from the ride operators.
  10. Report any suspicious activity immediately to police and Fair security.

See you at the Fair!
