Road Rage Causes Half Of All Collisions

It’s not surprising to learn road rage behavior causes collisions, although the number of collisions it causes is a bit of shock. A new report links road rage to nearly half of all car accidents.

How do drivers display road rage? The leading behavior is cutting in or weaving in traffic, which accounted for 54 percent of drivers in the study. Second is speeding, at 29 percent. And last, at 25 percent, is making hostile displays toward others.

Let’s face it, at one time or another, we’ve all been frustrated behind the wheel. Our hectic and fast-paced lifestyles don’t help. To help keep your cool, try these tips:

  1. Make alternate plans, so you have options if unexpected traffic is putting you behind schedule.
  2. Leave earlier, so you won’t be as stressed about getting where you’re going on time.
  3. If you drive a lot or are driving a long distance, take regular breaks. Fatigue decreases your ability to handle stress.
  4. Cooperate on the road. Try letting someone else merge ahead of you, rather than fighting for position.
  5. Remember everybody makes mistakes. And keep in mind someone else might be just as stressed as you. Be patient.
