Made in the USA

While it seems the news is always lamenting the loss of manufacturing jobs to foreign countries at a time when unemployment figures in the United States remain high, you might find comfort with the fact that 75% of all manufactured goods are still made in the USA.  Even better, our fellow country men and women are committed to buying American-made products as evidenced by the following statistics (provided by Consumer Reports National Research Center):

-          We chose the USA - given the choice between American made and a product made abroad, 78% said would rather buy the American product.

-          We want a strong economy, to protect the children and high quality – Americans remain very committed to keeping jobs in the USA, worry about child labor violations in foreign countries and still feel American goods are of higher quality.

-          We are willing to pay for it – the majority of Americans are willing to pay 10-20% more for USA made products.

If you wish to purchase American made products, here are a few tips to help you find the real deal:

-          Read all labels very carefully

-          Check available web listings of companies which manufacture in America (here are a few to try: americansworking.com, madeinamericaforever.com, and madeinusa.org.)
