Is It Alzheimer’s?

You forgot your best friend’s birthday—and her party. You aren’t sure where you put your car keys—or where you parked your car. You didn’t order your regular side dish at your favorite restaurant—because you can’t remember what it’s called.

When does forgetfulness trigger concern and elevate from an annoying inconvenience to possible warning signs for Alzheimer’s disease? Look for these common symptoms of mild cognitive decline—an early warning sign for the disease—put together by the Alzheimer’s Association:

-          You struggle to remember the correct word or name for something

-          You have difficulty remembering someone’s name, right after you’ve been introduced

-          You have trouble performing tasks in social situations or at work

-          You forget something almost immediately after reading it

-          You lose valuable items

-          You struggle with planning or organizing things

Alzheimer’s disease affects memory, thinking, and behavior, and gets gradually worse over time. Some early signs of Alzheimer’s can include getting lost on a familiar route, personality changes, and losing interest in things you previously enjoyed. If you have concerns about Alzheimer’s disease, consult your doctor for more information and an expert diagnosis.
