ROANOKE—Officials announced March 18 at the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Spring Conference that VFBF Women’s Program participants had raised more than $35,000 for Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom.

During a donation celebration, county Farm Bureau women’s committees were recognized for contributing $31,300 to AITC over the past year. Additionally, a silent auction and an ice cream fundraiser held during the conference raised an additional $3,700 for AITC.

“I’m so proud of the total amount of donations collected at the conference benefitting Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom,” said Faye Hundley, VFBF Women’s Committee chairman. “The committees do many events and fundraisers throughout the year to achieve this large contribution.”

Virginia AITC is part of a nationwide effort to help teachers and students understand and appreciate agriculture, which is Virginia’s and the nation’s largest industry. The program provides opportunities for children and educators to connect to agriculture through volunteer-led activities, school grants, professional development workshops and Internet resources.
