Check Livestock Policy Before Fair Entry

The summer fair season is coming up quickly and cow, hog and poultry farmers are looking forward to a ribbon-winning season at events around the state. Virginia farm insurance policyholders should review their livestock insurance before applying for entry into events, though, as some may require that form of farm insurance to participate.

Local fairs are also getting behind the policy. Not only does it protect the fairground from liability if something happens to a contending animal, a farmer with applicable farm insurance or livestock risk protection won't have to fret as much if an animal is injured.

Since fairs require livestock be transported sometimes across long distance, housed in close proximity to those from other farms and put in a high-stress environment, it's important for Virginia farm insurance holders to take precautions before participating. Making sure an important asset like a cow, sheep, pig or chicken is protected should be a first step before filling out a competition application.
