Berry production will be focus of March 8 conference

ETTRICK—The 10th Annual Berry Production and Marketing Conference will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 8 at Virginia State University.

The event will feature Ardair Peterson, owner of Chambers Brothers Blueberry Farm in Homerville, Ga., who will discuss challenges and opportunities in commercial blackberry and blueberry production.

Speakers from the VSU College of Agriculture, Michigan State University, N.C. State and Virginia Tech will present topics including blueberry production; steps to starting blackberry production on 1 acre; pruning primrose and floricane blackberry varieties; berry health; insect management; and field and high tunnel potted raspberry production.

Registration is $20 and includes lunch. The event is sponsored by VSU and Virginia Cooperative Extension.
