Summer expo open to young adults interested in farming

Specify Alternate Text
The annual Virginia Farm Bureau Young Farmers Summer Expo gives young adults an opportunity to learn more about agriculture and network with other young farm supporters.

The event is open to anyone ages 18 to 35 and is geared toward people who support agriculture through production, education, promotion and leadership. Anyone with an interest in agriculture is welcome to attend—including any Farm Bureau member who wants to become a stronger advocate for production agriculture.

This year’s event will take place Aug. 2-4 and will kick off at the 2018 Virginia Ag Expo at Cloverfield Farms in Essex County. Participants will have the opportunity to attend the expo—which is the largest agricultural field day in the commonwealth—and also tour farming operations in the area.

The remainder of the expo will be held at Virginia Farm Bureau’s headquarters in Richmond. Participants will hear from speakers and attend workshops on timely topics. Semifinal competition in the annual VFBF Young Farmers Discussion Meet will take place as well. The event is a discussion-style competition on an agricultural topic. Judging for the VFBF Excellence in Agriculture Award and Outstanding Young Agriculturalist program also will be held, and the winners will be announced that weekend.

For an agenda and to register, visit YoungFarmersExpo.org or Facebook.com and search “VAFB Young Farmers.”
