Farm transition planning workshops scheduled

BEDFORD—Farm transition and estate planning workshops will be held Nov. 14 at the Bedford Campus of Central Virginia Community College and Nov. 15 at the Rustburg office of Virginia Cooperative Extension in Campbell County.

Topics to be discussed include retirement planning for current farm operators, tax management issues and how to start business transition conversations with family members. Speakers will include attorneys and Extension agents with expertise in ownership succession issues.

“We believe there is a growing need for farm transition plans,” said Scott Baker, agriculture and natural resources agent in the Bedford Extension office. “Every farm is going to transition at some point or the other. And in Extension we believe that families need to plan for that event.”

Both workshops will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is $10 and includes lunch. Reservations should be made by Nov. 7, but every effort will be made to accommodate people who want to attend.

For more information contact Baker, 540-586-7675 or scbaker@vt.edu, or Todd Scott in the Rustburg Extension office, 434-332-9538 or todds08@vt.edu.
