Women involved in the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Program work to promote the agriculture industry through educational projects such as Agriculture Literacy Week.

Agriculture Literacy Week is sponsored by Virginia’s Agriculture in the Classroom program, which often partners with the VFBF women. The seventh annual agriculture literacy project will be held March 6-10, and volunteers will read Sleep Tight Farm: A Farm Prepares for Winter at schools in their communities. The children’s book by Eugenie Doyle shows readers what happens on a farm throughout the seasons and helps them see how farmers work to provide safe, healthy food all year long.

Farm Bureau women and other volunteers will read Sleep Tight Farm to elementary school children across Virginia. Approximately 1,000 volunteers read to more than 40,000 children last spring.

The Women’s Program goal is to strengthen local community members’ knowledge of agriculture and to serve as a strong voice for Virginia farmers.
