Last chance! Nominate your working farm dog for Farm Dog of the Year

WASHINGTON—The deadline for nominating a hard-working canine for American Farm Bureau Federation’s Farm Bureau Farm Dog of the Year contest is July 1.

Sponsored by Purina, the contest celebrates farm dogs that protect livestock and property, herd animals and neutralize pests while providing loving companionship to farmers and ranchers across America.

Desired attributes for the Farm Dog of the Year include helpfulness to farmers and their families, playfulness and obedience. For a full list of guidelines and eligibility requirements, visit

The grand prize winner will receive a year’s worth of Purina dog food and $5,000 in prize money and be recognized at the AFBF Annual Convention in January 2023. Up to four regional runners-up will each receive $1,000 in prize money.

Beginning in October, members of the public are invited to vote online for their favorite dog in the People’s Choice Pup division—part of the overall competition. The People’s Choice Pup will win Purina products including one year’s worth of Purina Pro-Plan dry dog food. The People’s Choice Pup, Farm Dog of the Year and runners-up, will be announced at AFBF’s convention.
