Resource day offered for SWVA farmers impacted by hurricane

INDEPENDENCE—An Agriculture Recovery Resource Day to help farmers and agribusinesses impacted by Hurricane Helene will be held from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Mountain View Baptist Church, 112 Mountain View Road.

Over 15 local, state and federal agencies will provide information about programs and resources that can support farmers’ recovery efforts.

Virginia Farm Bureau is among participating state organizations, which also include the Virginia Cattlemen’s Association, the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and Virginia Cooperative Extension.

Federal agencies participating in the resource day include the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Small Business Administration and U.S. Department of Agricultures’ Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation and Rural Development.

Additional resource recovery days are planned for early November in Washington and Wythe counties.
