Hanover County farmer receives 10-year service award

Hanover County grain and hay producer Leigh H. Pemberton was recognized Jan. 22 for 10 years of service on the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation board of directors.

VFBF President Scott Sink presented an award to Pemberton at the board meeting in Richmond.

As the District 8 director, Pemberton represents Farm Bureau producer members in Albemarle, Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Hanover, Henrico and Louisa counties.

He chairs the VFBF Dairy Advisory and Governance committees. He also is vice chair of the organization’s Legislative Advisory Committee and serves on its Executive Committee.

A third-generation farmer, Pemberton is president of Hanover County Farm Bureau and chair of the Hanover-Caroline Soil and Water Conservation District board. He also is a member of the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Board, the Virginia Agribusiness Council and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

With more than 135,000 members in 88 county Farm Bureaus, VFBF is Virginia’s largest farmers’ advocacy group. Farm Bureau is a non-governmental, nonpartisan, voluntary organization committed to supporting Virginia’s agriculture industry.
