Honey and chicken create a flavorful recipe combination
Americans celebrate September as both National Chicken Month and National Honey Month. This makes it the perfect month to create some delicious combinations mixing the two. The following recipes from the National Honey Board are sure to sweeten any fall gathering.
Honey Chicken Wings
1/2 cup honey
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup chili sauce
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
8 drops red pepper sauce
3 pounds chicken wings or drumettes
Preheat oven to 350°. In a small bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, chili sauce, garlic salt, pepper and red pepper sauce.
Arrange chicken in a single layer in a 9”x13” baking pan, and pour the sauce over the chicken. Rotate the chicken pieces to completely coat with sauce.
Bake for one hour, turning chicken once.
Cool slightly and serve.
Honey Lime Chicken Skewers
2 tablespoons honey
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil
juice from 1 lime
1 pound skinless, boneless chicken, cut into strips
bamboo skewers
In a small bowl, whisk all liquid ingredients together until completely blended. Pour mixture into a freezer bag, and add chicken strips. Reseal the bag, and gently shake to coat the chicken strips. Allow to marinate for 2 hours.
Prepare skewers by soaking in water for 15 minutes. Remove chicken strips from the marinade and place on skewers. Grill on medium- to high- heat for 8 minutes, or until juices are clear and chicken is fully cooked.
