Halifax forester elected to Virginia Farm Bureau board

Halifax County forester A. Bruce Slagle was elected Dec. 4 to the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation board of directors. He will complete the three-year term of Robert J. Mills Jr. of Pittsylvania County, who was elected VFBF vice president.

Elections of officers and directors were held at the 2024 VFBF Annual Convention in Hot Springs.

As a board member, Slagle will represent Farm Bureau producer members in Campbell, Halifax and Pittsylvania counties.

Slagle has served on the Halifax County Farm Bureau board of directors since 2014. He also serves on the Virginia Cooperative Extension Leadership Council in Halifax County and on the local Southern States Cooperative board.

Slagle’s family has operated a logging business, which he now owns and operates with his son Morgon.

He is a past recipient of the Virginia Forestry Association Logging Merit Award and the Halifax County Soil and Water Conservation District Forestry Award.

Slagle and his wife, Laura, live on the family farm, where they produce timber, raise livestock and grow hay. They have four children and one grandchild.
