Fruity French Toast

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s choosemyplate.gov nutrition website offers daily recommended servings of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods and dairy depending on your age, sex and level of physical activity. It's important to try to work these food groups into every meal.

Try this delicious recipe for Fruity French Toast to start off your day and help you meet your daily requirements.

Fruity French Toast

4 large eggs, beaten
1 cup skim milk
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon or nutmeg
½ teaspoon vanilla
8 slices whole-wheat bread
1 tablespoon margarine
3 cups strawberries, sliced
¹⁄3 cup maple syrup
dash of cinnamon

In a large bowl, beat eggs, milk, cinnamon and vanilla until mixed well.

Melt margarine in a large skillet on medium high heat.

Dip one slice of bread at a time in the egg mixture to coat both sides. Place in hot skillet, and brown each side, about 2 minutes or more.

To make the fruit sauce, combine strawberries, syrup and cinnamon, and mix well. Microwave mixture for 30 seconds until it’s warm. Spoon immediately over French toast.
